OA swimmer becomes first to dive for school during recent meet

Also helped set a new school record in 400M freestyle

(CONNERSVILLE, Ind.) – An Oldenburg swimmer made school history during a meet in Connersville on Saturday.

Santiago Schutte became the first-ever Twister to compete in a diving competition.

Schutte had no prior diving experience and only 30 minutes of practice before the competition began.

He scored 119.25 points in the one meter diving competition.

“I have always wanted to try diving, it was a goal I had set back my freshman year but with no place to practice and not having a diving coach, I decided not to think about it anymore and concentrate on my swimming. But then I started thinking, it’s my senior year, I need to at least try,” Schutte said.

He also competed in the 400M freestyle relay where a new school record was set. His teammates include Albert Hudepohl, Grant Rosenberger and Nash King. They broke the school record by seven seconds.

Schutte plans to continue his swimming career in college at Fresno Pacific University.
