(AURORA, Ind.) – A petition is underway to stop the construction of a pavilion at Gabbard Park in Aurora.
Some community members are upset because the pavilion will block a mural that was created several years ago in honor of the Aurora Fire Department.
“The need for additional structures in our community should not come at the cost of erasing this vital piece of our town’s identity,” the petition stated.
Opponents argue that there are other locations for the pavilion that would not block the landmark.
“We propose a town meeting to discuss plausible alternatives for the pavilion project that can coexist with the mural. Options could include relocating the pavilion to an open area where community events can flourish without compromising our town's artistic heritage,” stated the petition.

The 812 reached out to the City of Aurora but have not heard back at the time of this article being published.
