Photos: Franklin County seniors continue decades-long Brookville dam tradition

Class of 2025 set a school record for weed-eating "25"

(BROOKVILLE, Ind.) – Franklin County’s Class of 2025 left their mark on the town Thursday!

A total of 43 seniors climbed up and down the side of Brookville Dam to continue the school’s decades-long tradition of weed-eating their graduation year in the grass.

It’s a tradition that typically takes place on the weekend but due to the short time between the last day and graduation, it took place today.

The seniors completed the job under 18 minutes which breaks a school record! The previous record-holder weed-eated their graduation year in just over 30 minutes.

Shelby Hamilton and Sharon Volk served as FCHS Senior Class sponsors and decided to turn the event into a field trip.

After the ‘25’ was finished, the entire group gathered for a picture below and then commenced with games and lunch from Brookville Skyline,” Hamilton said.

Hamilton also thanked US Army Corps of Engineers Ranger Stephanie Ison for allowing this unique tradition to continue and also helping to organize it.

“We are so incredibly proud of this Senior class and their dedication to making memories that will last a lifetime! They are leaders and are not afraid of hard work, and I think this is a testament to both,” Hamilton added.

For those unfamiliar with this tradition, be sure to look toward the dam for the big "25" the next time you pass through Brookville on State Road 101.
