(METAMORA,Ind.) – Community members are encouraged to attend a public meeting regarding the closure of the Whitewater Canal State Historic Site.
The meeting is scheduled to take place at Third Place in Metamora at 6 p.m. on Monday, June 30. Third Place in Metamora is located at 19068 Main Street in Metamora.
Last week, the closure announcement was made on the Whitewater Canal State Historic Site’s Facebook page.
“The Indiana State Museum and Historic Sites has made the difficult decision to close the Whitewater Canal State Historic Site. The intention is for the site to remain open through the 2025 summer season,” the announcement read.
Officials added that the closure is due the site no longer being economically or environmentally feasible to operate or manage.
A representative from Indiana State Museum and Historic Sites is expected to attend the meeting and address the site's closure.
