(Batesville, Ind.) – Genesis: Pathways to Success offers local students opportunities to hone valuable skills while making art.
It’s part of the “A Summer of STREAM “ series which aims to develop Science, Technology, Reading, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics abilities.
Recently, six students took part in Genesis’ three day Mosaic Master: Art Camp where they learned about mosaics and sculpted their own.
On the first day of the camp, students prepared their ideas by outlining their designs. Upon completion, campers began turning their creative designs to reality.
Batesville art teacher, Kyle Hunterman, cut glass into shapes that matched each student's illustration. Campers carefully started arranging and gluing their mosaics into place.

The second day of camp, students continued securing their mosaics and explored other creative activities. They enjoyed painting with watercolors while their mosaics dried.
“My favorite part was seeing how the glass pieces form a picture. I had no idea what I was gonna make, and I liked the process of letting my imagination guide me” Halle Wendell, incoming 8th grader at Batesville Middle School.
On the final day, students got an immersive experience through grouting their mosaics and learning the importance of grouting. Campers now have completed works of art to showcase the skills they developed.

This camp provided students with hands-on, experience-based learning opportunities including brainstorming, idea outlining, and secure building.
Organizers thanked Andrea Grimsley, Kyle Hunteman, and Mary Mattingly for volunteering and also thanked Batesville High School for hosting the camp and Margaret Mary Health for providing lunch.
