Social media app hoping for last minute intervention from White House

(WASHINGTON, D.C.) – More than 170 million Americans may no longer have access to TikTok on Sunday.
President Biden signed a bipartisan bill into law last year and which has been upheld by the Supreme Court.
The law was created due to fears of the app’s foreign owners using data to manipulate or harm Americans.
It requires TikTok to sell to American buyers by January 19 or face a ban in the United States.
TikTok released a statement Friday that it will be forced to “go dark” on Sunday, unless the Biden administration intervenes with an executive order.
Incoming President Donald Trump has signaled that he might give a 90-day extension on the law once he is sworn-in on Monday.
The current owners of TikTok have until midnight Sunday to sell the app.
