(BATESVILLE, Ind.) -- The annual Turnover Hunger initiative generated nearly $27,000 this past football season.
The initiative involves Batesville and Milan’s football teams and money is raised whenever the Bulldogs or Indians force a turnover.
The money goes toward the Weekend Backsack Program which provides a backpack of kid-friendly, non-perishable food to specific students in Ripley County.
Batesville and Milan recently presented five $3,640 checks to Batesville Primary School, Jac-Cen-Del Elementary School, Milan Elementary School, South Ripley Elementary School, and Sunman Elementary School.
The remaining dollars have been added to the Turnover Hunger Endowment Fund to sustain the program for future generations.
Statistics show that more than 1,000 children in Ripley County are insecure.
You can donate to the Weekend Backsack program year-round by contacting the Ripley County Community Foundation.
Thanks to a special matching opportunity through Lilly Endowment, every $1 contributed to this program is matched with an additional $2.
