(RUSHVILLE, Ind.) – The Rush County Sheriff’s Department has charged four people in connection to a driveway paving scam.
Investigators say a 77-year-old woman paid $35,000 to a company called “Interstate Paving.”
Police say the work took place last February and a male who claimed to be an employee of the company attempted to collect an additional $9,000 using a fraudulent ‘rebate’ offer.
“While investigating this case, detectives were notified that the victim had two fraudulent checks created under her account. With the assistance of a local bank, investigators were able to locate these two fraudulent checks which had already been cashed at a local establishment,” the sheriff's office said.
The checks were cashed for a total of $2,800 prior to being flagged as fraudulent by the bank.
Robert Boswell and Austin Boswell have been charged Forgery and Fraud.
They have not been taken into custody and police are searching for information on their whereabouts. Contact the Rush County Sheriff’s Office at (765) 932-2931 if you have information.
The department has arrested Ashley Stanley and Johnny Broadway in connection to the case.
