Batesville, East Central, Greensburg share results

(BATESVILLE, Ind.) – It’s graduation season and local seniors are leaving their alma maters with more than a high school diploma.
The seniors are getting a head start on their next journey by taking advantage of the partnerships provided by local high schools.
It’s all part of an evolving high school experience that is preparing each student for success whether they choose to go to college, the workforce or the military.
In Batesville, every graduating senior earned college credits with 40 of them getting an Associate’s Degree before they graduated last weekend. The partnership between Batesville and Ivy Tech has resulted in an estimated cost savings of more than $5 million for the senior class.
“Through our partnership with Ivy Tech, we’re delivering real value for students and families—removing financial barriers and accelerating student success,” said Batesville Superintendent Paul Ketcham. “It’s a shining example of what happens when we invest our finite dollars in opportunity.”
At Greensburg High School, there were 75 seniors who earned at least an Academic or Technical Honor with half the class earning both. Those college credits have led to cost savings for the seniors who also got a helping hand from the community.
Greensburg seniors earned more than $4 million in scholarships from post-secondary institutions as well as local organizations.
"These local scholarship opportunities are an example of the incredible organizations and people in our community who are providing assistance to the seniors as they embark on their next journey in college, the workforce, or in the military,” said Greensburg Superintendent Tom Hunter.
In St. Leon, there will be 299 East Central seniors who will earn their diploma during the school’s commencement on Sunday afternoon.
According to the school, the senior class earned 5,962 college credits which is an estimated college tuition savings of $6 million.
“This graduating class has achieved historic results,” said East Central High School Principal Tom Black. “From college-level coursework to industry certifications and military service, the Class of 2025 represents the very best of East Central and the future of our communities.”
In total, Batesville, Greensburg and East Central seniors have saved more than $15 million in future costs.
