Man who killed 2 kids executed

(MICHIGAN CITY) – A man who killed his girlfriend’s two children in 2010 was executed on Thursday morning.
50-year-old Jeffrey Weisheit was convicted of setting fire to his girlfriend's house which claimed the lives of two children, 8-year-old Alyssa and 5-year-old Caleb Lynch.
The kids were found gagged and tied up inside the house.
Weisheit’s attorneys recently asked Indiana Governor Mike Braun to delay the execution for an investigation into the lethal drugs the state uses.
On Monday, Governor Braun rejected the request and approved the Parole Board’s unanimous recommendation to move forward with the execution.
The execution process began shortly after midnight Thursday and witnesses said Weisheit had no final words.
“Jeffrey Weisheit's case has been heard and reviewed numerous times by both state and federal courts, including the Indiana Supreme Court, since his conviction in 2013. These reviews have never resulted in an overturned sentence. The State Parole Board issued a unanimous recommendation to deny Weisheit's final appeal for clemency and that his execution proceed as scheduled. Today, Weisheit's sentence has been carried out as ordered by the court," said Governor Mike Braun.
Weisheit is the 24th person to be executed by the State of Indiana since 1976.
The execution took place on the same day that Florida and Alabama are also expected to carry out the sentences of two men with lethal injections.
