Many Franklin County roads impassable Thursday night

Updated: 17 hours ago

(METAMORA, Ind.) – Residents along the Whitewater River in West Harrison and Dearborn County have been ordered to evacuate on Thursday night.

Meanwhile, multiple roads and areas throughout Franklin County are currently closed or impassable due to flooding.

Current closures/impacted areas include:

● Laurel Road

● Ott Road

● Dam Road

● St. Mary's Road

● Highland Center

● River Road

● Levy Road

● Blue Creek

● Town of Metamora

● English Woods

● Hedrick Road

This list is subject to change quickly as water levels continue to rise and conditions develop. Additional roads may become flooded or impassable with little warning.

Drivers Urged To Avoid Travel

Residents are strongly encouraged to avoid unnecessary travel, particularly as we move into the evening and nighttime hours.

Do not drive through standing or moving water. DO NOT drive around barricades or attempt to cross a closed roadway. Floodwater can conceal washed-out pavement, damaged bridges, debris, and other hazards.

If you encounter water covering a roadway, turn around and find another route.

Emergency responders and highway crews are actively working throughout Franklin County. Staying off impacted roads helps protect you and allows emergency personnel to respond where they are needed most.

Please continue to monitor Franklin County EMA and other official emergency communication channels for updated road closures and flooding information.
