(METAMORA, Ind.) – The Whitewater Canal Historic Site has announced a possible grant opportunity through the Indiana Economic Development Corporation.
Along with the Southeastern Indiana Regional Planning Commission, the organization has received a pre-commitment notice for a possible grant offer of $7 million to help fund the site’s preservation project.
The project includes associated matching dollars totaling $14.4 million, also including the potential $7 million allocated by the state of Indiana in 2023.
“This is a complex and complicated project. It’s the culmination of years of collaborative efforts with the Indiana State Museum and Historic Sites, the Metamora community, the Southeastern Indiana Regional Planning Commission, Sen. Jean Leising, Rep. Lindsay Patterson, Rep. David Abbot, Franklin County and the state of Indiana,” the organization said.
A public meeting to discuss the future of the site has been scheduled for this coming Monday.
