(GREENSBURG, Ind.) – The initiative to bring a new pool to Greensburg is inching closer to reality.
Both community and private donations have been pouring in order to raise the necessary $4.5 million.
Officials say they have less than $1 million to reach the fundraising goal.
$3.5 million has been raised through contributions from the Decatur County Community Foundation, the City of Greensburg and the Decatur County Redevelopment Commission.
Another $188,510 has been raised through private donations and the Decatur County Community Foundation’s dollar-for-dollar match program which is taking place through February.
A total of $811,489 still has to be raised and there are match dollars still available.
The need for a community pool comes after the historic Allen Memorial Pool closed in 2023 after nearly 70 years due to deteriorating conditions.
The new 9,000-square foot pool would resemble the footprint of the former facility.
“It will include a zero entry for accessibility and safety, a splash pad to the northeast, a 4-flume slide to the northwest, and to the southeast will be a family slide for multiple users to ride together,” officials said.
Donations are being accepted online at dccfound.org, or at the Decatur County Community Foundation at 101 E. Main Street in Greensburg.
